Client Alert: Maryland Business Personal Property Form 1 Due April 17, 2017
Register now for email reminders, SDAT will not mail Form 1 next year
If your business entity was incorporated, qualified or registered to do business in Maryland as of January 1, 2016, you may have received a pink postcard from the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation. The postcard is marked "Final Notice" and is advice that your Form 1, Annual Report and Personal Property Return as of January 1, 2017, must be filed on or before April 17, 2017.
Additionally, and more importantly, the notice advises you that SDAT will no longer mail Form 1 packets to you, nor will they mail any other reminders regarding future Form 1 filings or due dates. Instead, you must now go online to register for reminder emails.
To register, go to SDAT's Business Personal Property page and look for "To join our personal property list serve, please click here" at the end of the second paragraph.
SDAT is also encouraging business entities to file Forms 1 electronically using Maryland Business Express. To do so, you must first register your business entity by completing the "Account Log In" information on the right side panel of the webpage. Please note that the filing fee due with the e-filing of Form 1 is subject to a service fee of $3 for an eCheck or 3% for payment by credit card.
Beginning in 2018, SDAT will no longer mail reminders about annual filings. You will receive email reminders only if you have registered your entity online.
SDAT is still accepting hard copy Form 1 forms, which you can download here and mail.
