Jim UlwickThe U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland has issued new rules for monitoring attorney communications. Trial attorney Jim Ulwick was interviewed by the Daily Record for his perspective on the events that led up to the policy change, and because of his successful challenge of the appropriateness of a “filter team” of the U.S. Attorney's Office to review files and emails seized from a law firm client's office in 2019. Tens of thousands of unrelated electronic files were seized by DEA and IRS agents in the raid. The case was widely reported by news and legal media outlets. The new guidelines provide important protections for sensitive investigations.
