Lawyer Cyclists

Mention cycling to a lawyer at Kramon & Graham, and you will likely hear stories about the firm-sponsored annual Ride to the Tide, a 125-mile bicycle ride to the Maryland State Bar Association Legal Summit and Annual Meeting in Ocean City, Maryland. The tradition began in 1984, when firm co-founder Andy Graham and two friends embarked on the ride. A regular accompaniment of attorneys from the firm, lawyers from other law firms, judges, and other legal professionals have completed the Ride to the Tide in most years since.

But many of the firm's attorneys are engaged in Maryland's cycling community beyond an annual event. The Baltimore Sun recently wrote about Wheels of Hope, where Kramon & Graham Government Contracts attorney John Dougherty (on left) serves as a volunteer mechanic: BikeAAA win repair gear for program restoring, donating abandoned bikes (March 7, 2021).

Other members of the firm routinely cycle to work and participate in bicycling races and events. Managing principal Dave Shuster (on right) is an avid recreational cyclist and regularly participates in centennial rides. Dave has been a guest speaker for the Baltimore-based nonprofit Bikemore on legal and safety issues affecting cyclists. Dave represents clients in claims involving fatalities and serious injuries. His passion for the sport of cycling and his legal experience give him a unique perspective in representing fellow cyclists involved in serious crashes. He wrote "The Cyclist's Essential Checklist," a guide developed to protect the legal rights of cyclists involved in serious crashes.

Now that the weather is improving, we look forward to seeing more of our friends in the cycling community out on the roads!
