Kramon & Graham is pleased to announce that our former colleague Lee Ogburn has joined Maryland Legal Aid

Lee OgburnIn 1979, Lee Ogburn became the first lawyer to join Kramon & Graham, P.A. after Jim Kramon and Andy Graham founded the firm in 1975. Forty-two years later, having contributed to the firm's reputation as one of Maryland's most highly regarded law firms, and establishing a premier insurance coverage practice, Lee decided to retire from the work he loves, to do work so badly needed for underserved members of our community. Lee joined Maryland Legal Aid earlier this year.

As the chair of Kramon & Graham's Insurance Coverage practice, Lee established a national reputation of excellence in advising insurers of their coverage obligations in connection with large commercial losses and representing insurers in coverage litigation around the country. Over the years, Lee assembled an insurance coverage group that handles complex coverage disputes involving hundreds of millions of dollars in claims arising out of catastrophic industrial accidents, asbestos and other mass-tort litigations, and product defects. A Fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel, he has been recognized in Chambers USA, and named in every edition of the peer-nominated publication The Best Lawyers in America since 2008. His Best Lawyers recognition includes Baltimore Insurance Lawyer of the Year, Bet-the-Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation, and Insurance Law.

Throughout his career, Lee has been a devoted advocate of making legal services available to Maryland's underserved citizens. For years, he co-chaired the Equal Justice Council's Law Firm Campaign. In 2013, he received EJC's Champion of Justice Award for his leadership in organizing, fundraising, and promoting equal access to justice. In 2015, Lee served as EJC's co-chair. He was honored with Maryland Legal Aid's Equal Justice Council Executive Director's Award in 2018. He received the Daily Record's Leadership in Law award for his outstanding service in the practice of law and to the community.

Lee's retirement from private practice is a bittersweet occasion for the firm. The firm and its people owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Lee. Lee served for many years as the firm's Managing Principal, and he set the standard for professionalism, selflessness, and decency. It is impossible to overstate Lee's contributions to the firm and its culture.

While we will sorely miss him at the office, we are proud that Lee has taken his remarkable legal talent, tireless energy, and dedication to the community to become a full-time, practicing attorney for Legal Aid. Every day and in concrete ways, Legal Aid lawyers help their clients overcome extremely challenging circumstances such as homelessness, hunger, poor health, and unemployment. Lee will be representing underserved clients in connection with landlord-tenant and mortgage foreclosure issues.

We applaud Lee and Maryland Legal Aid for their important work to provide free civil legal services to the state's most at-risk residents and communities. Consistent with our commitment to preserving the legacy of integrity, quality, and philanthropy that has been our hallmark since our firm's founding in 1975, and in honor of our trusted colleague and cherished friend, we are proud to announce that Kramon & Graham will be making an additional contribution of $10,000 in Lee's name to Maryland Legal Aid. Lee's success inures to us all. Please join us in wishing Lee all the best.
