Jim Ulwick quoted in Law.com on Avenatti wire fraud mistrial

Kramon & Graham principal Jim Ulwick was quoted in a Law.com article about Michael Avenatti's wire fraud trial in California, which ended in a mistrial after the Department of Justice's privilege-review team released new financial data during trial that the judge said should have been released long ago.

Jim prevailed in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in challenging the appropriateness of a “filter team” to review files and emails confiscated from a law firm client's office. The case, United States v. Under Seal, has drawn national attention. Law.com contacted Jim to discuss the issues behind privilege-review teams. Appellate justices “were very clear about the right way and the wrong way to do this and that this whole taint team filter team protocol is the wrong way,” Jim said in the article.
